On that note, I was so glad to chat with Dust author, Kara Swanson, about living chosen; what it means for her, and for Peter and Claire.
Kara, what does living chosen mean to you?
It means living my life with the intention to extend grace and kindness to everyone around me, being authentic and raw about the ups and downs of my journey, and trying to live to see the beauty in the small things and give God glory with every heartbeat <3
How does writing play into living chosen for you?
I love getting to pour the soul-themes that are close to my heart into my writing through raw characters, and seeing those themes resonate with people.
Do the characters in Dust feel they have purpose?
Yes. Claire’s purpose is to find her brother (though she has to grow to find her own personal purpose) and Peter’s purpose is to get back to Neverland and rescue his island.
How does their “purpose” shape their choices?
They’re both willing to do anything to get what they feel they need. Including lying to each other and the others around them. But those lies will eventually catch up.
What advice would you give to someone trying to find their purpose or live chosen?
Don’t stop asking questions and searching for truth. Especially when it comes to faith-- God can handle our questions. He can take our searching and fear and frustrations and anger. Get to know the one who gives our lives hope, and you might just find there is purpose beyond your wildest dreams.
